Post Description
While three different bolt assemblies are shown in the following diagrams, they have a common configuration as far as the size and shape of the magazine cuts, the bolt nose, and the extractor cuts. One version is for use in the open-bolt gun and has a fixed integral firing pin. Another, which is the same length and diameter, is intended to be contained entirely inside the receiver, making possible a closed-bolt pistol version. The third is a full-length bolt intended for use with the original recoil spring and buffer. This is the one to use if the unit is to be interchanged with the original .223 upper receiver assembly. Even though several of the dimensions are the same for all three, we will discuss the construction details of each one separately. This will entail some repetition but may also avoid confusion.
